Flight of the Soul brings together vocal ensemble VOCES8 with internationally acclaimed violinist Jack Liebeck
Flight of the Soul brings together vocal ensemble VOCES8 with internationally acclaimed violinist Jack Liebeck in a programme that celebrates the human spirit, transcendence and transformative power of music. The flight of the soul has long inspired poets, philosophers, and composers picking up on themes including a metaphor for hope, spiritual searching and the pursuit of beauty. It is also an invitation to listen and remember as the music peels back layers of memory.
The programme features music by James MacMillan, John Sheppard, Caroline Shaw and current VOCES8 composer-in-residence Taylor Scott Davis. Alongside these is JS Bach’s solo violin Partita No. 2 where chorales are interwoven with the movements, enriching its spiritual resonance. Also included is Vaughan Williams’s beloved The Lark Ascending arranged by Paul Drayton for voices and violin – a soaring reflection on freedom and beauty, and the World Premiere of a new work by Deborah Pritchard.
Together, these works form a musical journey that mirrors the flight of the soul itself: a blending of voices and violin, of tradition and innovation, and of human reflection with transcendent imagination.
