A meditative new work exploring sound, memory, and spiritual resonance
Pulitzer winner Tyshawn Sorey honours Morton Feldman and the Rothko Chapel with a meditative new work exploring sound, memory, and spiritual resonance, featuring Artist in Residence Davóne Tines.
Fifty years after Morton Feldman wrote Rothko Chapel, Tyshawn Sorey—Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, MacArthur Fellow, and acclaimed performer—offers his own musical tribute. Commissioned by DA CAMERA and Park Avenue Armory, Monochromatic Light draws on Feldman’s legacy while speaking to the present, exploring themes of reflection, history, and community.
Sorey creates a sound world that feels timeless and deeply human—music that, like Rothko’s paintings, reveals new shades with every moment. This is a rare chance to hear a major new work shaped by reverence, boldness, and emotional depth.
