A journey through the last century of music from female composers
Bridging Worlds is a special concert which celebrates music from female composers, including the world premiere of Eleanor Alberga’s Second Symphony and a performance of Florence Price’s Violin Concerto No. 1 by Elena Urioste.
In this special concert, lead by our Director Tomo Keller (violin), we celebrate pioneering music from twentieth and twenty-first century, taking the audience on a journey through the last century of music from female composers. The first half takes audiences through the twentieth century, beginning with Grażyna Bacewicz’s Concerto for String Orchestra, a work often referred to as her magnum-opus, followed by Florence Price’s Violin Concerto No. 1, performed by Elena Urioste.
The second half features two contemporary works composers, including Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte, an ASMF favourite inspired by Haydn’s String Quarter in F Major, and the world premiere of Eleanor Alberga’s Second Symphony, commissioned by ASMF.
