A concert where memory, story and sound collide across time and genre
Solem Quartet and Alice Zawadzki unite to celebrate Steve Reich’s 90th birthday with a programme that weaves together personal history and visionary songwriting.
At its heart is Reich’s iconic Different Trains, a landmark twentieth-century work blending recorded voices, train sounds and string quartet to powerful emotional effect. Zawadzki joins the quartet for new arrangements of her own genre-defying songs, rich in folklore, imagination and jazz-inflected freedom, alongside striking reworkings of Kate Bush by Will Newell.
