We presented Steve Reich’s work for the first time at Bold Tendencies in 2016 as part of the Proms, in the first concerts ever to be held outside the Albert Hall. Colin Currie is one of the world’s greatest percussionists and an exceptional player of Steve Reich’s music. Reich himself has said of Currie’s performances, “Drumming evolved over time within my own ensemble, and now you listen to Colin Currie play that piece and it’ll knock your socks off. I wish we’d played with that intensity!”.

Some 20 years ago, before the beginning of Bold Tendencies, the Proms staged ‘Steve Reich at Seventy’. Drumming was presented by the then-newly formed Colin Currie Group handpicked especially for the occasion.

It is a perfect full circle to bring Drumming to Bold Tendencies this year, 20 years after the presentation at the Proms, 20 years following the formation of Colin Currie Group, 20 years since the beginning of Bold Tendencies - and in Steve Reich’s 90th Birthday Year.
